Pat Bamford Joins Sheffield United After Initiating Derogatory Songs Targeting Manager Chris Wilder

The striker has signed with Sheffield United just seven months following instigating derogatory chants aimed at their manager, Chris Wilder.

This experienced forward, a free agent since leaving Leeds United, has signed a agreement joining the second-tier strugglers through the winter. Bamford's lengthy spell at Elland Road finished by mutual consent in August.

Among Bamford’s final notable acts as a Leeds player included starting abusive chants regarding Wilder during the club’s success festivities in April. Now, the one-cap England player will feature under Wilder as the Blades’ manager seeks to pull his beloved club away from the drop zone.

Past Conflict Between Bamford & the Manager

Both men had previous conflict before Leeds earned promotion to the top flight the previous campaign and United were defeated in the playoff final to Sunderland. The manager described the forward as “a muppet” when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and the Blades won automatic promotion whereas Leeds United fell short in the promotion playoffs.

Reconciliation & Looking Ahead

Everything appears to have been put behind them with Sheffield United, the league's least productive attack, urgently requiring of improvement in attack and Bamford aiming to resurrect his career.

The Wilder chant spread widely in April. A repentant Bamford and the Leeds manager, Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the following day.

Chris Wilder said at the time: “Had a conversation with Patrick recently and I have no problem at all with it. I'm uncertain regarding the language from a fellow pro! But I appreciated and respected him giving me a call.

“We spent a short while and similarly I spoke to Daniel too and had a longer discussion with him and he is a great person, a top guy. When I was playing we would dish it out and accept it and that is part and parcel of the game across all levels, including a Sunday morning. I've got absolutely no issue. I am cool with it and I said that to Pat.”

Recent Career Struggles

Bamford featured in 18 appearances with Leeds United in the previous campaign but the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea and Middlesbrough striker has faced difficulties with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
