The Gory Animated Film Ending That Haunts Audiences

Out of all the mature cartoon movies I’ve ever watched, no other has remained with me quite like the fear-filled conclusion of the viscerally violent as well as overwhelingly transgressive 2022 movie Unicorn Wars.

Back in the year 2015, this Spain-based writer-director crafted a grim, melancholy , often savage universe that included some tiny , desolate glimmers of optimism.

Although The Unicorn Wars seems like it originated from a desire to advance the medium even more, the filmmaker stated that it was more an attempt to express a widespread, multicultural message about “the mutual source of each battle.”

That idea is expressed by means of a band of colorful pastel bears , obviously inspired by a popular line of lovable figures.

Being raised in a community focused on aggression and the military-industrial complex, numerous these creatures are consumed by killing unicorns, due to a religious scripture which states the bears they previously were kings of the forest, until the unicorns drove them out.

Others did not entirely accepted the indoctrination, , prefer to sample drugs or mate in the forest.

Unlike their gentle counterparts, these bright beings show genitals , obvious urges.

For one notably brutal, cynical bear, Bluey, the battle against the unicorns turns into a path to control — and particularly to authority over his softer, nicer brother Tubby.

The character acts as a tormentor and a seeming psychopath , and while fear takes over his unit and claims his comrades sequentially, he grabs increasingly power for himself, via progressively gory, destructive ways.

Meanwhile, the horned creatures are enduring their own nightmare, in the form of a spreading, deadly beast in their woods.

“In the early stages, it appears as a lighthearted film,” the filmmaker stated. “However it evolves into a more dramatic and melancholic movie. And in the finale, it becomes a horror film.”

The Unicorn Wars starts out similar to among the playful movies by a renowned animator, that discover a wicked pleasure in allowing cartoon characters swear, engage in violence, or sex each other up.

Then it becomes something more like a bleaker movie from that director, featuring progressively visual gore , a tangible relation to genuine tragedy of war.

In the finale, it is an outright Grand Guignol carnage.

The horror which makes this a perfect Halloween viewing begins much sooner than indicated.

The Unicorn Wars is one for the most dedicated fans of gore, for fans of intense movies who want to watch something they have not seen on-screen before, and who can handle a story which delivers unflinching brutality.

Watch it in a dark room without any distractions, and that ending will dig into your mind and linger.
