The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year left on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering momentum.

Their recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
